Day 5! Post Oak Hits the Links (Andreas and Andy)

Day 5! Post Oak Hits the Links (Andreas and Andy)

Students began the day by finishing the book, Ben Hogan’s Five Lessons and had a short discussion about what they learned. This book covered the five main areas of the swing including the grip, stance/posture, backswing, downswing and the finish. This book provided the students with a strong foundation for the execution of their swing. Next, students began working on a Google Slide presentation based on comparing their swing to the swing of a professional golfer. This began with students taking a slow-motion video of their swing and comparing it to the swing of a professional golfer.

After the short work period, students engaged in a conversation regarding golf and gender. They read an article discussing stories about Portuguese women and their experience with golf. They discussed the history of gender in golf and the current actions being taken to help women engage further in the golf world.

After the discussion, students loaded onto the buses and headed to the First Tee of Houston. Upon arrival, they were greeted by the Head Pro of the facility. He spoke to the group about the mission of the First Tee program and the importance of introducing golf to underserved children around the nation.

Shortly after the presentation, everybody was divided into groups of three or four. Each group consisted of one representative from Post Oak’s Golf Team and two or three students. Each group set off on the course and began to play through the holes. Students played as much as they could during the time given. The golf team members were able to instruct students with tips on how to move around the course.
